Description
The Resurrection of Drusiana occupies the middle register of the Saint John the Evangelist cycle in the Peruzzi Chapel. The episode derives from the apocryphal Acts of John and recounts how the apostle, returning to Ephesus, encounters the funeral procession of Drusiana, a devout Christian woman, and miraculously restores her to life. Saint John stands at the center and stretches out his arm toward Drusiana with extraordinary force. The Opera di Santa Croce specifically emphasizes the expressive, almost sculptural power of this hand, which visually concentrates the saint's miraculous authority.
The gesture becomes the narrative axis and directs attention immediately toward the rising woman. Drusiana is shown at the precise moment of returning to life. The monumentality of the figures reinforces the solemnity of the event.
